First's in Michigan

Well, we have completed the move to Michigan. It was an interesting time getting here filled with strange places to pump, losing each other in gas stations, and trying to unpack and repack items so we could separate them into storage and things we needed. Zach did amazing during the move and seems to enjoy it here in his new home.

Let me tell you about some of the events and situations we have gone through in the past few weeks.

Pumping during travels = ninja skills and stealth positioning of yourself so nobody can tell what you are doing in a vehicle. As we are going 75MPH down a highway I was attempting to pump so we could feed Zach, this made me have the same feeling as walking in on somebody going to the restroom TIMES 10! Drivers and passengers kept trying to check out what I was doing under my blanket and I would nonchalantly look out the window like I was gazing at a beautiful sunset. Needless to say, it was a little awkward but not as awkward as David's graduation. When we went to David's Graduation ceremony I had to pump inside of McCormick Place in a stall of a public bathroom. I was in a dress so I had to disrobe, I decided to use my dress as a sheet to cover the opening of the stall and its a good thing too! Women were coming in and out to use the restroom and I was still in there. About 15mins before the ceremony a long line forms in the bathroom. People are trying to look through the crack to see what I am doing in there but my trusty dress saved the day. I understand their curiosity, the pump makes a rhythmic gulping sound and I had been in there for almost 30 minutes! I cant even imagine what they thought I was doing in there... After that experience I decided to start using the manual pump in public because it doesn't make any sound. I first tried this out at a friends wedding, again in a public bathroom. **Shakes head** I figured I would rather have them think I was constipated then try to peak through the stall door. I used to be grossed out by public bathrooms and bodily functions, one month of having a newborn and you just don't care anymore.

Babies R Us = Evil monopoly disguised as caring baby lovers. Our wonderful family and friends gave us a crib/changing table combo that changes into a toddler bed then a normal twin sized bed and a Glider/ Ottoman. The way Babies R Us decided to handle those orders was to ship them to my in laws home and we would assemble them when we arrived in Michigan. So, my mother in law and I go about assembling these bad boys in the nursery. We both enjoy doing these types of things so we are having a nice time chatting and following the directions. Step 1 check all the parts to ensure you have them and they are not broken. Easy enough. We start pulling out several pieces and arrange them in the room to make it less messy, as we go along we notice one of the pieces is in fact broken. OK, so we check to see which piece this is. David calls Babies R Us and after a long conversation is told that they can ship us the part or they can ship us a new crib and we can ship the broken crib combo back. It is the end of the changing table, technically we can still assemble the crib so Zach has someplace to sleep and we will be able to swap out the part when it arrives. My mother in law and I go back to work, we set the whole thing up (after the use of some power tools to fully drill out "pre drilled holes") and move it to where we want it for the night. After a couple of days we notice we haven't heard back about the part, David calls again and gets the run around. Because it was ordered online (by an associate in the store not by the customer) the store wont help and because it was technically ordered in a store, online help wont help either. Eventually, David gets someone to help him but they tell him we have to ship the crib combo back first and then they will send us a new one. The three of us decide that is not going to happen, that crib was a pain to assemble. So, the next day or so my mother in law calls. They try to give her the run around and she shuts them down. She wants to speak to the supervisor, the supervisor is the one she is speaking with, she says she wants to speak with HIS supervisor. He tells her that's corporate, she replies OK I want corporates number. He proceeds to try to deny that corporate can help and claims they are not there. BEST LINE in response from my mother in law "So, you're telling me that everyone at your corporate offices are dead?" Shortly after that she was given the manufactures number, they will be sending us a new part.  On a happy note, the Glider/Ottoman had only 3 parts and the Ottoman was all ready assembled in the box. YAY!

Neighbors that actually speak to you = Awesome

I have been trying to get back into shape and decided that walking will be the best thing to start with. In this neighborhood people actually speak to you and mean what they say! It's a little startling and was a bit of a culture shock for me at first but now I have made some friends during my walks. My new YAYA lives next door, as I was walking home from a friends house with David I noticed she was having some trouble walking. She is an elderly lady and has a black dog name Clover. We stopped to chat for awhile then David brought Zach inside and I stayed out to talk to her. She told me about her labor stories (EVERY women tells me about her labor story, I have found a new strange club) and about how her dog has a thyroid problem and she has to give it a pill everyday. Clover figured out how to eat the cheese (she hides the pill in it) and leaves the pill. Now this dog gets the cheesy pill and after she eats both gets a treat for eating both. Clover has figured out how to take YAYA #2 for all she worth.

Vibrating house = Day at the church

One of the things my in laws decide to do for us and them is redo the basement. This has turned into Davids brothers temporary room while we stay there. Today, the plumbers are at the house and with jackhammers so they can lay the pipework for the bathroom. To be honest I thought it would be louder then it was but I decided that maybe Zach shouldnt be exposed to that loud of sounds and that heavy of vibrations so early on.  David had to go to the church to work today so I figured Zach and I would hang out in the nursey until the sounds at the house were under control. Hopefully the house hasnt bounced away while we are gone, then where would thye deliver the part for the crib?
